It is the poet’s right to write,
They own the deep dark night,
They own the bright light of day,
It is for us that they must have their say.
Poetry should try to inflame,
But never incite shame.
It should open up a gate,
But not bring on racism or hate.
Schools must teach poetry
But also, perhaps some knowetry,
Know that ART cannot be bad or good,
Liked or not liked, but understood.
They should teach love and grace
And how to share this space.
