Hindi Poem – Beauty

NOTE: It is my desire to write a range of different poetry styles. I love the beauty of the Hindi script. I translate from the originals I find, however I’m sure the translation does not do justice to the poets original intent. Here is my attempt to write a Hindi poem. The first draft I created it in English and then translated it using GOOGLE TRANSLATE. Then, I had the wonderful support of Shreya Vohra phoenixwithapen.wordpress.com who fixed a couple of my mistakes. Thank you so much Shreya.
The English version can be found below.

How the beauty of your face shines,

like a multitude of small lamps off in the distance

burning with fire.

The far horizon drinks the flames of the sun

and the soft darkness of the twilight reminds me of you.

How the beauty of your heart shines

like rising full moon above the midnight sea

burning with passion.

    1. Hello Shreya
I don’t speak Hindi. I’d love to learn. I just love the script of Hindi writing. It is as though it is designed for poetry and song.
Google translate can be a bit tricky, but I translate from english to another language and then back again to English to see if Google has mucked with the text. It gets pretty close i think.
I would love to write something that was properly translated.
      Regards

      1. I agree with you on that! The Devnagari script does look really poetic and mystic! And this was really almost correct, just two basic errors that are equivalent to writing ‘her’ in place of ‘him’ in English (just giving you an idea)..
        Otherwise, really beautifully put!

      2. Yeah sure!
        Just replace the following:
        कैसे with ऐसे
        दिलाता with दिलाते
        चमकता with ऐसे चमकती
(You may copy paste from this comment directly)
And delete की तरह in the second line

  1. Fantastic lines👏👏👏👏

Few lines from my new poem :
    ना उम्मीद नहीं प्यार, था रिश्ता दोस्ती का

    कुछ ऐसा हुआ इकरार कि, रूबरू होना मुश्किल हो गया !

    समझाया खुद को बहुत, जज्बात काबू ना हुए

    होना था तुझसे दूर,पर दिल मजबूर हो गया !!

      1. Yes, Google Translate isn’t too bad. It gives you the idea of a piece of text, although I’m sure the nuances of language are sometimes lost. When I write a Hindi poem, I have to translate back and forth from English to Hindi and back to English to make sure my meaning isn’t being lost. I would love to be able to translate perfectly. Better still, I’d love to be able to speak Hindi.
